HLTAID001 PROVIDE CPR
Provide CPR provides participants the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide CPR life support, management of casualty(s), control of the scene and other personnel, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. This course was previously known as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/CPR. This training program is being provided on behalf of and monitored by International Skills Training Academy Pty Ltd, which is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO Number 3877).
In line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, this course covers a broad range of topics to enable participants to confidently manage a casualty who is unconscious and is not breathing. CPR is a lifesaving technique which can sustain life until an ambulance arrives. It meets all National requirements under the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 for first aide personnel in the workplace, and is suitable for members of the public seeking training cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
Our competency based training and progressive assessment approach aims to provide you with a total understanding of CPR and a working knowledge of:
- Basic principles and concepts underlying the practice of CPR
- Procedures for dealing with breathing and non-breathing patients
- Priorities of management when dealing with life threatening conditions
- Basic occupational health and safety requirements in the provision of first aid
- Infection control principles and procedures
- Chain of survival
- First Aiders’ skills and limitations
- Understanding of the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Rivers First Aid provides on site face-to-face training to ensure the most from your training experience, no online components required. Course duration is 2 hours. Course duration may vary depending on a number of circumstances including but not limited to the number of students in the course and their current skill level.
It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least two minutes with a CPR manikin placed on the floor. Students also require basic reading and writing skills. If you feel you are unable to meet this requirement please contact us for additional support information.
Students must be 14 years or older. Students under 14 years must provide written permission to attend the course from their parent or guardian.
There are NO other prerequisites or co-requisites for this competency unit.
On successful completion of the course the participant will receive a National Statement of Attainment (HLTAID001 Provide CPR) which is valid for one year. As per the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines HLTAID001 Provide CPR must be renewed every 12 months to maintain currency. This Statement of Attainment will be issued by International Security Training Academy Pty Ltd (RTO Number 3877).
