AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATION
This course describes the skills and knowledge required to perform automated external defibrillation to victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
With knowledge and skill in the use and maintenance of an AED participants can feel confident to apply an advanced chain of survival and provide life saving technology when needed most. SCA can occur to anyone at anytime. Quick access and use of a defibrillator can improve the patients chance of survival from 5% to 85%.
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills required to perform life saving resuscitation using an advanced chain of survival with an automated external defibrillator (AED).
This training aims to provide you with a total understanding of the Chain of Survival and a working knowledge of:
- Intro to Defibrillation (AED/PAD)
- Chain of survival & Roles and Responsibilities
- Priorities of management when dealing with life threatening conditions
- Occupational health and safety requirements in the provision of defibrillation
- Infection control principles and procedures
- Operation of an AED & Resuscitation using an AED
- Safe handling & Care and maintenance
- Scenario based examples
Rivers First Aid provides on site face-to-face training to ensure the most from your training experience, no online components required. Course duration is 1 hour. Course duration may vary depending on a number of circumstances including but not limited to the number of students in the course and their current skill level.
There are NO prerequisites or co-requisites for this course
On successful completion of the course the participant will receive a Certificate of Completion in Defibrillation (AED) which is valid for one year. It is recommended that refresher training in the use and maintenance of an AED is undertaken annually.
